I’m Laura (she / her)

Thank you for being here. Whether you’re new to counselling and therapy or taking the next step along your path, I’m glad that you’re here. It can take courage to face our struggles and explore the issues that impact us.

I’m a BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) registered counsellor and therapist and my own journey started with my experience of therapy as a client. Exploring my challenges in a safe, supportive and affirming space helped me to live a more connected and fulfilled life. I’ve also had experiences in therapy that weren’t affirming or trauma informed so it’s incredibly important to me that the space I offer is trauma informed, as well as being LGBTQIA+ affirming, disability affirming, neurodiversity affirming, anti-racist and fat-positive. If you have an aspect (or intersectional aspects) of your identity that are impacted by oppression and you’re wondering whether I am the right fit for you, this post shares a little more about my commitments as a space holder, counsellor and therapist.

You might be looking for therapy to focus on a specific problem, or perhaps you want to understand yourself and your experience better. What ever your reasons for coming to counselling, I offer a collaborative space where you can connect with yourself while being compassionately supported.

I am passionate about the practical aspects of therapy and supporting you to build tools and resources that you can use outside of the therapy room, as you respond to the inevitable challenges of being human.

The types of therapy I work with include nature therapy, psychodynamic, gestalt, humanistic, acceptance and commitment therapy, neuroscience and somatic trauma therapy. I’m also a licensed meditation teacher, a sound practitioner and I do work to facilitate wellbeing and spirituality in nature. I’ve shared a bit more about my approach as a therapist here.

You don’t necessarily need to work out whether any of these approaches are right for you, they’re simply tools that I’ll use to support you as we work together to explore the struggles or experiences that have brought you here.

Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life

What you might want to explore
in counselling and therapy

I offer both long term and short term counselling and sessions are available weekly or fortnightly. Sessions take place in person at my therapy space in South Birmingham, in nature at a location just outside of Birmingham and online. Some of the things you might want to explore in counselling and therapy include:

  • grief

  • autism, adhd or other neurodiversity

  • stress

  • life transitions

  • relationships, relationship patterns and relationship dynamics

  • depression and low mood

  • anxiety and anxiety disorders

  • trauma

  • identity

  • pain, chronic illness and other health issues

  • menopause

Outside of my work as a counsellor and therapist, I’m a meditation teacher, a sound practitioner, a space holder and a nature therapist. While I don't always bring these elements into the counselling room, it's safe to say I believe that a holistic approach that works with the mind, body and nervous system can be hugely beneficial.

My approach is trauma informed and rooted in safely connecting with yourself and your experience, in a way that works for you. That might mean focussing on what's happening for you in the here and now, or exploring the past and how it affects the present. What ever you're wanting to focus on, I'm here to support you.

Integrative counselling
pricing

My standard fee is £60 per session.

I offer a limited number of reduced fee slots for those who are unwaged, on minimum or a living wage or financially impacted because of other issues.

I appreciate that paid therapy, even at a reduced rate, is still beyond the financial reach of many people so I have included some information about low cost counselling options
here.

Sessions are available throughout the week, during office hours and I offer both weekly and fortnightly sessions.
